Quality Education. It’s Worth the Ride

“Victorious Vera” at the State Capital in Sacramento

Rubber met the road last month as Kateeva’s Vera Steinmann led colleagues on a marathon 65-mile bike ride to support local non-profit, Ride for a Reason. A daunting challenge for the most enthusiastic cyclist, but for Team Kateeva, it was an opportunity to combine their passion for cycling with their commitment to education.

Ride for a Reason benefits 10 public schools in Oakland, a city that’s close to our HQ. This year, the non-profit’s goal was to raise $220,000. Today, with donations inching beyond $215,000, looks like they’ll do it!

Thanks to the support of generous colleagues and friends, Team Kateeva surpassed their $1000 fundraising target. By the end of the trip, Ride for a Reason received $1335 from Kateeva.

Access to a quality education is near-and-dear to Vera’s heart. A native of Germany, she graduated from the State University of New York in Albany with a M.Sc. in Physics. From there, she obtained her PhD in Physical Chemistry from Cologne University in Germany. She joined Kateeva in 2016. Today she’s a senior research engineer in our OLED TFE group.

She said this about supporting the cause: “From grade school to grad school, I benefited from great teachers, quality programs, and generous mentors who encouraged my passion for science. That’s how I landed at Kateeva. Ride for a Reason is dedicated to supporting Oakland’s K-12 kids with enrichment programs; not surprisingly, I was drawn to the cause. Of course, it didn’t hurt that the countryside is in full spring bloom, adding to the enjoyment of the day.”

Thanks for leading the charge to support our local schools, Vera. Well done, Team Kateeva!
