Kateeva celebrates a decade of OLED manufacturing equipment innovation, technology leadership, and growth

NEWARK, Calif.— Marking a decade since Kateeva was established, worldwide employees gathered recently in Silicon Valley to celebrate the milestone at a gala anniversary party.

 From Modest Beginnings…..

Kateeva was co-founded by Conor Madigan, PhD, Valerie Gassend, PhD, and Gerry Chen, PhD. The trio shared a passion for OLED technology and a conviction that a novel precision deposition manufacturing equipment solution could help enable cost-effective mass-production of the nascent display technology. With a business plan in hand, the entrepreneurs relocated to a modest facility in Silicon Valley in 2008, began fund-raising, hired key talent, started the company’s engineering program, and focused on developing a unique equipment solution that leveraged inkjet deposition technology.

…. to a Leading OLED Industry Player

In 2013, the company introduced the YIELDjet™ platform. With its unique enabling features, it was the display industry’s first inkjet printing equipment solution for the production of the organic thin film encapsulation (TFE) layer of OLED displays. A year later, the YIELDjet FLEX system debuted. The first commercial product based on the YIELDjet printing platform, the tool was built to enable high-volume production of the organic TFE layer of mobile OLED displays. Today, the system is the leading inkjet deposition platform for this OLED application.

In 2015, with industry momentum increasing, Kateeva relocated its global headquarters to a facility in the East Bay city of Newark. Since then, the company strengthened its leadership team, added new investors, and grew its international presence by establishing operations in China, Japan and Taiwan, and expanding its presence in South Korea.

Now, Kateeva’s YIELDjet technology is being evaluated for OLED RGB pixel deposition, with customers deploying YIELDjet EXPLORE and EXPLORE PRO tools in their OLED RGB development programs.

Still Guided by a Set of Core Principles…..

From the outset, Kateeva employees were driven by a fundamental commitment to technology innovation and customer-centric solutions. They were also guided by the “Kateeva Spirit” – a set of principles that inspired employees to develop the best possible products for the most critical customer challenges, while achieving their professional goals at the same time. A decade later as headcount surpasses 400 worldwide employees, Kateeva’s innovative and customer-centric culture endures as the company’s “compass.”

…..with Customers & Skilled Employees Driving the Growth

Reflecting on the first 10 years, the company’s Co-founder and President, Madigan, credits display industry leaders for supporting Kateeva’s vision, and talented employees that turned an ambitious manufacturing equipment idea into a mass-production reality. “We’re tremendously fortunate to work in an industry that’s known for innovation, with fantastic customers that collaborate with emerging technology companies like Kateeva to make great products possible,” he said. “Without doubt, however, our greatest strength is our diverse, energetic, and committed team. More than anything else, they have made Kateeva’s achievements possible and it has been an honor and a pleasure to work alongside these individuals for the last 10 years. I’m excited to see what we will accomplish together over the next 10 years.”
